Why are Fruits and Vegetables so important?

 Nutrients in Fruits and Vegetables

Fruits and vegetables are some of the most important foods you should have in your daily diet. They are rich in vitamin A, vitamin C, potassium and fiber amongst a host of other important minerals.

Vegetables are very important to maintaining one’s health. It is important to eat at least 3 servings of vegetables a day. Some of the benefits of vegetables is that they are high in fiber and aid in digestion which in turn helps you absorb the minerals and vitamins in your food. Vegetables such as carrots and sweet potatoes for example are rich in vitamin A and help keep your skin and eyes healthy.

Not only this but it will (in conjunction with exercise and a balanced diet) help prevent heart disease and cancers which are a huge problem today and in my opinion is directly associated with poor eating habits and lack of exercise. Not too mention lowering obesity, high blood pressure, and diabetes. I could go on and on and write all day about the health benefits of eating fruits and vegetables.

The benefits really are so numerous. In today’s fast paced hectic lifestyle it is easy to forego fruits and vegetables and rather opt in for a protein bar or some other supposed healthy quick fix. Don’t get me wrong some protein bars are healthy and if you have no other option around (meaning healthy food that is not processed) they’re a great substitute.

But back to the vegetables and fruits, one of the best times to have them especially if you are on a diet and watching your carbs are in the morning when your metabolism is high and during/after your workout. Take advantage of the many benefits fruits and vegetables have to offer and go green to help you stay fit and healthy!
